So that freelance client, the one with the outstanding invoice that's enough to pay down the last of my debt and cover my expenses for a month or two as well?

Turns out they lost the invoice.

It's gonna be a lean February, folks. I could just rack up my line of credit, knowing that the money is coming in - but I fought so hard to pay down the debts from shooting SNOWBALLS and I don't want to fall back into that credit-interest trap.

Tonite: Guy Maddin! Most of the Top Ten screenings, including "Saddest Music in the World" and "The Corporation," are already sold out.

In compensation, I offer photos of

Well, I did mention that money is tight, right?
And cat legs are actually pretty tasty, with a little bit of garlic sauce...

DAMMIT!!!

THOSE ARE THE TWO MOVIES I *WANTED* TO SEE!

I'm such an arrogant retard. I even moved my writing night around so that I could go tonight.

I think I'll call them for last minute tickets anyway...

Fuck.

I miss you.
I adore you.
I spent six months looking for work (because I'm both too specialized and have too many interests) in Toronto and nearly killed myself with stress, and really bad stress relievers.

You can and will do it. You are strong and brilliant and wonderful and more capable than anyone I have ever met. Myself included.

(Let me know if you need help speeding up the reception of your new invoice, or if you need to borrow *anything*, cuddles included.)

I just called.

All the movies that I wanted to see are sold out.

I've learned my lesson.

I have written them down and will rent them one day when they become available.

I won't get to see you this week and I'm upset about that but I hope you ENJOY THEM IMMENSELY!

My life without me is playing at the rep cinemas right now, I'll see if I can get the times for you.

The Corporation is playing at the Carleton this week, if you wanna catch that, and Love, Sex & Eating the Bones is opening soon. No idea about the Maddin film.

Sadly, because it's a limited run, the Top Ten screenings do tend to sell out - hence why I was bugging people about them early. But no worries, you'll get to see 'em someday soon!

Miss you too.
What's your schedule like this week/weekend? I wanna see my monstre soon!

I have a dumb question. Is there a site for rep cinema schedules? Right now word of mouth and driving by is the only way I know to find out what's playing...

How was the Maddin talk? What did he talk about? What do directors talk about in general?

Who's curious?

I had no idea the screenings would sell out, I thought you were trying to generate interest and support for an event that needed the money... Whoups. I'll know better next time!

Our schedule this weekend is WEIRD. We've got a birthday party Friday night for someone that we haven't seen since JULY and then this weekend there's all sorts of *stuff* that needs to get done but none of it is scheduled yet. I need to do a run to Niagara on the Lake to buy ten cases of wine (with lots of sampling, and you're welcome to come along for the ride!) and I need to spend some time on a couch with my knitting and make a huge omelette breakfast JUST CUZ and maybe install a few light fixtures and clean up some and design the civil ceremony invitations and have a fight over the phone with mom and maybe clean a little and re-arrange two pieces of furniture and OH! Go to a pet store and find a feathered friend and clean the cage and put it somewhere special and spend a lot of time whistling to our new friend...

*grin*

I'm a little excited about a "weekend with no plans", which of course is a terribly dangerous thing.

Wanna come out and play? Come over with a few Maddin or Hal Hartley movies? Don't I owe you a curry lesson? :D

The Maddin talk (actually Maddin, his co-writer George Toles, Scott Smith - who directed "Falling Angels" - and his producer, and Don McKellar as moderator) was great. The topic was adapting original material (like books) for film.

My goof on why I was pointing out the screenings - should have made the sell-out factor more clear. Next time!

Saddest Music is launching on April 30th, mebbe we can go see it then!

Rep cinemas have two main websites in Toronto:

www.bloorcinema.com - for the Bloor Theatre at Bloor/Bathurst
http://www.festivalcinemas.com - for most other rep theatres

The Festival Cinemas site doesn't work all that well. Innis College does free Friday night screenings and occassional sneak previews, but their website hasn't been updated in ages.

No idea what my weekend is looking like right now. A couple of things are hanging on the "might come through" level, and I sort of need to see how that all plays out to know if I have any free time this weekend (there's a chance I'll be going to Guelph for a few weeks to work on a film, and I have a *ton* of stuff I'd need to get in order before that happens).

But then I miss you. Hugely. And I want to learn to make curry. And watch you knit. And poke Dave. Yargh! So time must be made. Mebbe Sunday evening? How are you with nights-before-workdays? If they are early?

Lean times are far worse in the winter than when the sun is shining and you can live off the vitamin D it sends out for free.

Damn, I'm sorry to hear that. I know how much you were depending on that money. I'd tell you to stay out of the credit trap, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

Thanks for the bonus pics! Damn babies are cute. I want one. *sigh*

This baby is more goofy than cute. But it's a cute goofy. And he has a skull and crossbones hat. Yargh!

Mostly I'm frustrated that it makes my finances so much more complicated, balancing off anticipated income with unfixed arrival dates and trying not to rack up interest fees because of someone else's error. *sigh*
